Biography

Sota Isozaki is a Master’s student in the Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering at Kyoto University, and is currently a visiting researcher at the University of Texas at Austin. He studied earth resources engineering during his undergraduate studies and has conducted research in the fields of carbon capture and storage.

His current research focuses on how the presence of thin water films and bulk water affects the reaction behavior between minerals and carbon dioxide. His research combines experimental approaches with numerical and molecular-scale simulations. By clarifying the relationship between the state of water on mineral surface and mineral-CO2 reactions, his work aims to contribute to geological CO2 storage, mineral carbonation, and the development of sustainable carbon-sequestration technologies.
