Biography

Omar Ali Carrasco Jaim joined The McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin as a Postdoctoral Researcher in November 2020, under the supervision of Professor Charles Buddie Mullins. In 2021, he began collaborating with Professor Ryosuke Okuno’s research group within the Center for Subsurface Energy and the Environment.

Omar’s research focuses on developing active materials for energy conversion through photocatalysis and electrocatalysis, with an emphasis on structural and electronic modifications to enhance hydrogen production from water splitting and the conversion of carbon dioxide into chemicals and fuels. Additionally, he is exploring alternative carbon capture technologies that can be integrated with electrochemical conversion processes.

In 2020, Omar was awarded the ConTex Postdoctoral Fellowship, a joint initiative of The University of Texas System and Mexico’s CONACYT (The National Council for Science and Technology), which supports academic and research collaborations between Texas and Mexico.

Before joining UT Austin, Omar was actively involved in the Ecomaterials and Energy Department at Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, where he participated in research projects in collaboration with national universities and the local industrial sector.
